Terra Luna, Martian trend
Terra Luna is a world ruled by raw materials: concrete, terracotta, stone, etc., with a significantly new structural approach. The tactile dimension is of great significance in this trend – very soft or, on the other hand, very rough finishes force us to develop touch within a world of design where the main focus used to be on how things looked.
'At Gerflor, creativity is not an occasional, intuitive or spontaneous phenomenon, but a plant that is patiently and methodically cared for and nurtured every day. We travel the world to spot global trends in design, architecture and fashion. At the end of these adventures are our mood boards: combinations of styles, colours and materials that are an endless source of inspiration for creating new products. That is where you will find the raw materials for our future collections. A vital lifeblood that feeds the Gerflor brand identity for more and more unique and innovative products.'
Gino Venturelli, Artistic Director of Gerflor
This almost surreal theme portrays the meeting point between the earth and the planets. Desert-like, hollowed out surfaces, eroded by the wind, seemingly void of life forms, but rich in minerals with warm and rocky chromatic tones. Terra Luna depicts a harsh environment based on curved shapes and forms.
A world ruled by inert raw materials such as plaster, cement, clay, stone, with a new approach to design trending towards the monolithic solidity of materials, almost as a type of spontaneous, primitive, monumental architecture. The tactile dimension is extremely significant for this theme: very soft, three-dimensional shapes matched with a solid, rough, almost harsh surface. A contrast that forces us to use the sense of touch. The basic shapes are oversized, almost symbolic. They play on the micro/macro contrast to reflect the world we live in.
We dream of travelling through the universe of planets, rediscovering the terracotta or ochre colour of Martian soil, the deep blue and boundless starry sky, the silver shades of the Moon, or the orange-red of a sunset. This trend appears as a break with the virtual and intangible side of the digital environment. It offers new suggestions to reflect on the position of man in the universe, but also on the need to recognise physical contact.
